In the camp's food waste?

Nine days till the trip
I still need to book a room
And plan the last week.

I wish I could say

Happy birthday friend

We left Korea
Just for some Mexican food
On the US base.

Graduation day
Six guys from my dorm will walk
Know God goes with you.

It pays to have friends
When the dark storm clouds roll in
And for the good times.

The armor did not fit him
But God was his strength.

Home Alone On A Friday

The clueless ones say
It was on the internet
So I know it is true.

At times I have thought
We go around in circles
How 'bout one more lap?

Three trips to HomePlus
One solo and two with friends
That was my day off.

A voice in the night
Calling out to the young lad
Bad news for Eli.

The tickets are booked
The adventure awaits us

But still occurs now.

That is soon to come.

Friday Evenin' Finally Rolls Around

Getting writers block
Can't come up with great haiku
Need inspiration.

I had one written
Based on dinner plans I made
But we ate elsewhere.

It takes work he said
Not all fun times and romance
I'll trust him on that.

My friend is a dad
Just like a Chuck Norris role
They named him Braddock.

Some really tough rules
Thanks to a new covenant
They don't apply now.

I said it was done
Some thought that I would get Lost
But still no TV.

Under the moonlight
A bat moves through the crisp air
Letting out tension.

"Oh my gosh, no way."
That dumb smiley keeps saying
Enough already.

Likely To Be Misunderstood

For those who are new
I write haiku on Friday
And show them to you.

High on a rooftop
I wanted to scream out loud
But would you hear me?

I'll bust out my moves
If a dance can help stop war
I've danced for much less.

Do not awaken
That is what they said to me
Can it sleep too long?

Buy eight, get one free
A frequent customer card
Filled up in a week.

Where did I go wrong
How did this path go astray
Is there a way back?

So many commands
There in the Old Testament
This one I can keep.

Shortly after I posted the above, I learned of a friends passing...

It was moving day
We broke a desk together
Rest in peace my friend.

We call this day Good

I say I love Him
Yet often I disown too
The rooster still crows

One for all of us.

Poems, Prayers, And Promises

A letter is in the mail to many of those who have supported me over the years. Part of it reads,

"During my high school years, I attended a very mission oriented church. Looking back on that experience, I am not surprised to see that I now am serving God overseas. What I am continually amazed at is that when I accepted God's call to "go and make disciples of all nations," in Matthew 28, that I would be going to as many nations as I have. I took a few step of faith to leave home, and that step has led me to places I never thought I see."

I am overwhelmed, honored, humbled, and amazed that in a few hours I have the privilege to join a four good friends in leading fourteen students to India. There we will be working at an orphanage for a week. As I shared with a friend the other night, I never dreamed I would see the places I've seen. God continues to amaze me in so many ways, and I look forward what he has in store on this trip. I've got a feeling my mind and heart will not be the same. In fact, my stuff is packed in a bag I got on a trip to the Czech Republic years ago that says, "Never Be The Same Again." It was the theme of that trip, and that bag has gone on every trip I've been on since. I take it as it is a great container for my stuff, but it is also a reminder that after each of these trips, and each experience with God, I'm never the same.

Now here come the haiku:

Riding across town
Looking for the subway shop
No luck but good ride.

I should be asleep
The bus leaves in two hours
Why am I online?

I've picked my movies
On the way there and return
Man I am a nerd.

You know that's what I'll bring back
And will share them here.

Here Comes The Haiku

It is Friday. And regular visitors to this page know that is when another crop of haiku is harvested by the migrant workers I employ. They take out the pits, clean them up, and deliver them to me, along with some freshly squeezed lemonade. I then pick the best looking haiku to place on this display case of life. Enjoy.

He arrived early
The first son of a farmer
They named him Ryan.

Traveling backwards
To meet a friend from the past
But looking ahead.

Vacation schedule
Going to bed at seven
Steak after midnight.

Olivier likes slugs
He saw a big octopus
Told Chris not to dive.

Yellow and black tights
Rock and roll with a God theme
They covered Friends well.

Bird flu got you down
Eat plenty of sauerkraut
Or get some kimchi.

Some people eat fish
others make pets out of them
Then there is this gal.
